Weekly Round-Up

We had another great week full of learning and fun!

We enjoyed many read alouds together. The topic focus was Autumn, numbers, colours and our uniqueness.

We extended our learning using the book Only One You. We created our own fish rocks to remind us that we are unique gifts from God. We have placed our prayer rocks on our classroom prayer table.

We continue with our colour inquiry! This week we discussed shades and tints!

Our math focus has been patterns and recognizing, printing and counting numbers up to 5.

Home connection:

Write numbers on a cue card. Put out a set of toys (think a few LEGO’s, shopkins etc). Have your child count the set and find the cue card number that matches the set!

Year two families - extend the learning by asking how many more do I need to make ...

For example : place out three LEGO’s. Ask how many more do we need to make five?

Our literacy focus continues to be practicing our names and drawing pictures in our journals. Some friends participated in Fall themed write the room and worked on a Fall Colours book!

Outdoor play supports our gross and fine motor skills. We problem solve, ask questions and build our sense of community!

We also love puzzles, board games and playing teacher!

A reminder that there is a PA day on Friday and no school Monday (Thanksgiving).

Weekday Round-Up

Happy Sunday everyone!

Last week was certainly a busy one! It started off with a PA day on Monday. We attended wonderful workshops all day on topics such as self regulation, pre coding math activities and documentation! It was a wonderful day of teacher learning!

Tuesday was curriculum night, Wednesday picture day and then we had some hot days that kept us indoors all day! Thankfully the weather seems to be cooling down for us!

This week Year One friends worked lots with their names. Building it with different materials is a great way to practice it while having fun!

SK friends all drew and wrote in their journals. Some JK friends even wanted to try too!

We also went on letter hunts in our different sensory bins!

We had lots of opportunities to get creative this week! We created leaf creatures which were inspired by a book called “Leaf Man”, we were colour mixing primary colours and made leaf rubbings to welcome fall!

Our math focus has been creating and extending patterns. We have used different materials all week to create these. Lots of these materials have been great for a fine motor work out too!

We also were introduced to a ten frame and played around with that too!

We are looking forward to a great week ahead! A reminder that Wednesday we will visit the library so books are due back by then. Also Friday is Orange Shirt Day.

Weekday Round-Up

We had a wonderful first full week of school together!

The learning goals that we accomplished this week were drawing self portraits and printing our names, creating our golden names, created anchors for colours and the months of the year, shared a variety of songs and stories together and began to learn how to use the classroom word wall. For the next few weeks we will be focusing on our names. JK friends will work on recognizing and printing their names while SK students continue to practice correct letter formation and recognizing or printing their last name too!

Friday we celebrated Dot Day! International Dot Day is based on the picture book "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds. The main message of the story is to believe in yourself, harness your creativity and make a difference!

We participated in many of our own Dot activities throughout the day. We read the story “The Dot” and learned “The Dot Song”, we created a mural of dots as a class, made our own dot pictures and counted dots on dice and matched it to the number. It was a wonderful celebration!

A reminder that there is no school tomorrow as it is a PA day! We look forward to seeing all our friends on Tuesday!
