As I type I cannot believe that it is just about November! These last two months have flown by in a blink of an eye!
This week was another productive one! Most of our activities were pumpkin and Halloween related.
Numeracy has been centred around matching a number (up to 10) with the quantity. We have been doing this with pumpkin seeds, goggly eyes and Halloween stickers.
We have also used a math tool called a ten frame this week. Some friends completed a pumpkin counting book. It was sent home in Mr. Zippy. Have your child read this book at home and explain what a ten frame is.
As the rest of us complete this book this week, they will be sent home.
Some favourite literacy activities this week have been making letters using Playdough, journal writing and write (or trace) the room. For this activity I posted a variety of Fall words around the room. The kiddies went on a scavenger hunt for them. Once found, they recorded them.
We read tons of Halloween themed books this week too. This group of kiddies really love read alouds!
We participate in tons of outdoor play in a day. The kindergarten playground is the extension of our classroom. We often bring our learning outside. Clipboards, crayons and chartpaper can often be found with a group of friends hard at work.
In the sandbox, students measure, collaborate, build and investigate.
We run, jump, skip and work on other gross motor skills.
We have large blocks that we build and collaborate with.
We truly love it outside! The weather is getting cooler and since we are outside for a good chunk of our day, I ask that kiddies are sent daily with coats, mittens or gloves and hats.
Finally... we are loving the letter of the week. The boys and girls love sharing an item from home. It is a moment to really let them shine!
This letter this week is T
This upcoming week is Halloween. Kiddies are invited to dress up on Tuesday. We dance in the gym at 8:45-9:15. Parents are invited to boogie with us!
A gentle reminder that we cannot hand out food treats. Stickers, pencils, erasers etc are good alternatives.
Thank you for all your continued support!
