Weekday Round-Up

Happy weekend! I hope everyone enjoyed the PA Day!

We had a super busy week. So busy that I hardly even had a chance to snap pictures of it all!

We did lots of earth learning. We learned that the earth is a sphere, made of land and water. On a globe this is represented by blue and green. We marble painted our own earth craft and wrote promises on how we can save the earth. We attached these promises to our craft! We participated in an Earth Day assembly and a yard clean up too. We continue to learn about the Creation Story and relate this learning back to our duty to take care of this beautiful planet that God has given us.

We continue to explore plants as part of our Spring inquiry. We planted our own Sunflower and it has sprouted! We will be planting beans this week!

We did some symmetry exploration this week. We also played Earth Day addition math games too. We continue to explore coins as well.

Some of the nicer weather allowed us to extend our outdoor play! The week ahead looks really nice too!

This week PAT is the letter Yy.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Weekday Round-Up

It is hard to believe that Monday we had no school due to an ice storm and today we will be enjoying 14 degree weather!!

This week we explored money. We talked about the different coins, learned their names and value and sorted them. Some friends played store and pretended to buy items with the coins!

We also estimated the number of items in a jar. At the end of the day we would dump them out and use ten frames to count them up.

We also did practice of teen numbers using ten frames too!

We began to learn about the Creation story. This tied in perfectly with Earth Week. We had lots of great discussions about this beautiful planet God has given us and how we can be stewards of the Earth.

Near the end of the week the sun came out a bit and we enjoyed some extended outdoor play. Kiddies are encouraged to come to school in splash pants these next few weeks. We spend lots of time outdoors. This extra layer keeps them warm and dry!

This week our letter is Vv.

Some kiddies haven’t been coming to school with their PAT items. This is an important activity that helps develop language skills and confidence. Please remember to send your child with an item to share on their PAT day.

Finally - some families have asked if we are in need of anything at this point in the year... we are starting to run low on Lysol wipes! I clean tables, door handles, soap dispensers etc with these regularly to help minimize the germs and sickness. We could use a few containers to hold us until June :)

Thank you!

Weekday Round-Up

I hope that everyone is staying safe during this icy weather!

Ironically enough we did a lot of Spring exploration this week. Many friends were researching plants and flowers and sharing their learning with each other.

We continued to explore measurement and learned about comparing numbers. When given two numbers we would talk about which number was bigger and which was smaller.

A fun game to play at home is “war.” Use just the number cards in a deck. Perfect game for this winter like day!

We also visited the computer lab this week. Our Year two friends taught the Year ones how to use a computer mouse!

A great site that we visit is abcya.com

This week our PAT letter is Ww.

Stay warm and safe everyone!

Weekday Round-Up

This week may have been short, but it sure was busy!

Lots of friends wanted to journal write about their Easter so much of the week was spent writing and sharing our work. We also rediscovered our magnetic letters and had some fun building words!

We began a Spring inquiry too. We have been reading Spring stories, creating anchor charts, participating in Spring themed centres and many kiddies began writing their own Spring books! Now we just need Mother Nature to cooperate and give us some Spring like weather.

This week we began to explore measurement. We learned how to measure length using non standard units of measure. These are fun activities to participate in at home too. Choose something to measure with such as legos, markers, paper clips etc. Ask your child to estimate how many long a certain item is (for example: a stuffed animal) and then measure it using one of the non standard units of measure!

Our PAT letter this week is Zz.

See everyone tomorrow!
