Happy weekend! The cold weather surely seems upon us with today’s brisk wind!
A gentle reminder to please send your child with a hat, gloves or mittens, boots and a warm coat. Splash pants are also another great layer! We are outside for a good chunk of our day. We want to make sure our friends are warm!
This past week we continued to explore shapes. We learned about the trapezoid and more about the hexagon. We discovered that you can put certain shapes together to make a new shape too! We also made pictures out of shapes. Shape exploration is so important because as children start to identify shapes, they develop a beginning understanding of geometry.
Lots of building took place this week! Our STEM challenge was to build a bridge over water. It required lots of problem solving and trial and error!
We put out new Duplo Lego and train sets that everyone really enjoyed building with too!
We have also enjoyed board games, puzzles and outdoor digging this week!
We have been teaching the boys and girls lots about feelings and the Zones of Regulation. It has become a classroom inquiry where we are asking questions and exploring the answers together. The children are coming up with their own ideas and ways to explain “the Zones” and the way we can self regulate.
We learned lots this week about peace and Remembrance Day. We learned the significance of the poppy and what it means to be peacemakers. We attended a beautiful Remembrance Day ceremony in the gym on Friday too.
Remembrance Day is extra close to Mrs. Linse’s heart as her younger brother Kyle is a Master Corporal in the Canadian Armed Forces. He is posted to CFB Edmonton with the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians), a tank regiment in the Canadian Armed Forces. He has been serving in the CAF now for almost 11 years. Mrs. Linse and her family miss him terribly but are so proud of the work he does!
This week our PAT letter is Pp. the sight word of the week is “put.”
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
