We had a wonderful week of learning through play.
The arrival of snow made it extra exciting. There’s something magical about the season’s first snowfall!
We got very creative this week with recyclable materials. It all started by reading the book “Not a Box.” After reading it, we were inspired to turn plain ol’ boxes into other objects! This activity required a lot of problem solving, planning, creativity and team work. We also presented our creations to the office staff and our peers, which helps us develop our oral communication skills too!
We continued with our self regulation inquiry. We created playdough emojis, made feelings with loose parts and read some great read alouds.
We read the stories Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and Chicka Chicka One Two Three. We worked on a STEM activity which challenged us to build a coconut tree to balance letters. We also played an alphabet matching game too! We will continue with some extension activities next week too!
We participated in number talks each morning this week. During a number talk we present the children with a number. They tell us what they think of when they see the number. So many great ideas came up! We discover that a number is much more than the numeral! The SK friends enjoyed a write the room number activity and we have all been learning about adding this week too! Dominos are a great tool to use at home to support the concept of addition.
The letter of the week is Nn.
The sight word of the week is “new.”
We will also add no, not to the word wall too.
A reminder that initial observations go home Tuesday. This report will highlight how your child is adjusting to the Kindergarten program and some of your child’s strengths and next steps. Inside the report will be your interview time for Thursday or Friday. The interviews are only 10 min long. We are solid booked with back to back interviews so we will need to stick to the time. If they start running late it causes a real domino effect for those who have to get to another siblings teacher for a specific time too. If you require longer than 10 minutes we are happy to meet again anytime the next week before or after school. Thank you so much ahead of time for your support in this!
Have a great week!
