Weekday Round-up

As always we had another great week!

There was lots going on in the school that we had a chance to participate in too! Winter Olympics was on Tuesday. We had such glorious weather for it too! The kids had a blast! On Wednesday morning was the RAD assembly in the gym. The grade fours put on a beautiful presentation about inclusion. It was the same day that we all wore pink in solidarity against bullying!

In the classroom we started an inquiry on caterpillars and butterflies. We had read a few stories the previous week where caterpillars were the main characters. These books sparked lots of questions and research! We will spend the next few weeks searching for the answers to some of our questions and sharing our learning with our friends.

We have been using numbers in our morning math talks. This is something fun to do at home too! Present a number and ask your child all the things they think of when they see that number. You’ll be impressed with what they come up with!

We have been explicitly exploring subtraction too through story problems. For example: I give the children five counters and say “you have five candies, if you eat two how many are left?”

Then I write the math sentence for them to see.

Last week we explored the 3D shape: rectangular prism.

Our dramatic centre has also been transformed into a restaurant this week! My fiends were busy making signs, menus, colouring sheets and placemats all week!

Our letter this week is Jj

This is the last week before March Break.
